What is ME?

ME is Marriage Education. Marriage Education is different from counseling or psychotherapy.

Marriage Education is taught in a classroom setting where couples are taught how to create a healthy stable relationship. Typically, couples are taught skills to increase effective communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Classes follow a structured curriculum and are taught in a group setting with various learning formats that may include lecture, demonstrations, role playing, small group exercises, and sharing between spouses/partners. Individuals and couples have no requirement to disclose problems to the class or instructor. Marriage Education classes typically last from 8-20 hours, and are taught in weekend or once-a-week formats.

Counseling or Psychotherapy is a process by which a trained and licensed professional (Counselor) works through a variety of psychological processes, with an individual, a couple or a family, to facilitate personal growth and/or characterological change related to one or more personal, emotional, social, developmental, vocational, education, health-related, or organizational issues. It usually requires self disclosure. These processes may include, but do not necessarily include, transfer of knowledge regarding communication and problem-solving skills such as are taught in Marriage Education classes. The typical Counseling format is an ongoing series of 1-hour sessions between the Counselor and the individual or couple.
